Daily Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 13-14, John 12:1-26

Psalms 119

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life + everlasting. Amen.

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;
give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Saturday, May 20, 2017 – Worth the wait!

Daily Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 10-12, John 6:45-71

Today’s Reading in The Story is found on page 467 with the words, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven…” and ending at the end of the chapter. (Read in your bible Revelation 21:1-22:21)

Waiting. No one really likes to wait. And that’s not just an acquired attribute! I have noticed that our newest grandson doesn’t want to wait even a second for his food. Why? Because don’t like to wait.

Unfortunately, there are times in our lives when we just simply have to wait.  We have to wait our turn in line. We have to wait our turn in traffic. We wait nine months for the birth of children (unless they come early).  But the truth is: anything worth having is worth the wait.  Waiting for eternal life will be worth the wait, the sacrifices, and any suffering we have had to endure in this life.  We need to pray for patience, James writes,

James 5:7 (NIV) Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.

When you’re bringing in the harvest, you’re thinking about what’s ahead:  Pay day!  After a long time of waiting, Isaiah’s prophecy has been fulfilled!

Isaiah 35:10 (51:11) (NIV) The ransomed of the LORD will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

You can hear the echoes of Isaiah’s prophecy in this chapter 21 of the book of Revelation:

Revelation 21:1-3 (NIV) Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

The prayer we been praying so long, “thy kingdom come”, has finally been answered and the reality: it was never about an earthly kingdom, it was always about the heavenly kingdom, the eternal kingdom.  Remember Christ’s words of the night before he suffered death?

John 18:36 (NIV) Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.”

The work of the cross and the empty tomb lived out in this world, and for us who live this life, but their ultimate outcome was for us to be in the new world and the new life without the effects of sin, satan, and death in the Kingdom of God.

Revelation 21:4-5 (NIV) He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

And when the old has passed away, the new has come: it’s all new – everything’s new!

THIS is the day the LORD has made for us, by His Cross, death and resurrection.  This is the day we been waiting for all of our lives. If you’re reading this, you are still waiting. But, if you’re reading this, know for certain, that as sure and Christ died and rose, and has promised He is coming soon, this day which He has made is coming and when it comes, it will be worth the wait.

God, be with us in our waiting. Help us, Holy Spirit, in our waiting that we may be faithful. Help us that in our faithfulness we might be obedient to Christ in all things. Help us to be obedient to Your great commandment – to love You with all our heart and love others as You loved us, and striving to accomplish Your great commission – to go into all the world making disciples of all nations – that we may prepares ourselves and many others for that day when eternity will break-in for all people, for all times, in Jesus’ name. Amen!

There is a fountain filled with blood
Drawn from Emmanuel’s veins;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood
Shall never lose its power
Till all the ransomed church of God
Be saved, to sin no more.
